Go Green with Project Romania - Recycling Milk Bottle Tops

This fund raising project has now finished.

In FEBRUARY 2013 we reached the target of 7 tonnes. This, when broken down into smaller units, goes something like this
1 tonne = 5 MILLION milk bottle tops
SO
7 Tonne = 35 MILLION tops
Quite remarkable - and so much better than putting them into landfill.

December 2008 Project Romania started a new venture – collecting used plastic milk bottle tops. Whilst it would never bring in a lot of cash it is very, very good for the environment.

Those little plastic tops are currently filling up land fill sites where they will take many hundreds of bio-degrade when THEY COULD BE RECYCLED AND MAKE NEW PLASTIC GARDEN FURNITURE AND MANY OTHER THINGS – see www.ghsrecyclingltd.co.uk

It took approximately 18 months to reach the first grand total of ONE TON (1000 kilograms) and receive the commendation of GHS recycling – and £50 in cash !!

However, during that time the news had spread and tops started to come in from many villages and towns in the Chard area – and as far afield as Bristol and St Albans!

We are very grateful for those who regularly bring tops for us :

all the schools in Chard, also Tatworth, Chardstock Schools. Other schools in the area have enquired recently about making a collection
collectors in Ilminster, Shepton Beauchamp, Huish Episcopi, Kilmington, Barrington W.I., Muchelney,
all the unknown collectors who bring so many bags and sacks to the Welcome Bap in Holyrood Street, Chard.

We would stress again though that this is NOT a rubbish collection – each bag of tops is hand sorted and packed into strong canvas bags sent by the factory in Portsmouth.

So PLEASE, PLEASE WASH ALL TOPS and TAKE OUT PAPER AND CARD INSERTS

We get some that look like the image to the right
and we then have to wash or waste them
